India rejects reference to J-K in China-Pak joint statement

India   on Saturday categorically rejected the reference made to Jammu and Kashmir in a joint statement issued by Pakistan and China after talks between foreign ministers of the two countries. Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs Anurag Srivastava said the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an "integral and inalienable" part of India and that it expects the parties concerned not to interfere in the country's internal matters. "As in the past, we categorically reject the reference to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir in the joint press release of the 2nd Round of China-Pakistan foreign ministers' strategic dialogue," he said. Terminated pilots to move court on Air India order

Some of the terminated Air  India  pilots will file applications in the Delhi High Court to bring on record the decision of Air India not to accept the withdrawal of their resignations. As per the Delhi High Court proceedings on August 14, the counsel for the pilots said that a crucial development has taken place on August 13 and Air India has taken a decision not to accede to the request of the pilots withdrawing their resignations. "Letters have been received by the petitioners late last night whereby it has been communicated that the resignations have been accepted from the date when the six months' notice period expired, respectively," the counsel said. The counsel told the court that though the legal plea in the petitions is that acceptance of withdrawal of resignations is not required and the resignations tendered by them are "non-est", however, by way of abundant caution they may be permitted to file applications to bring on record the subsequent developm...

Physical hearing may begin in some courts in SC from next week

A committee of seven  Supreme Court  judges is learnt to have recommended holding physical hearings in at least two or three of the 15 benches in the apex court as early as next week with some additional safety measures. The apex court, since March 25, has been holding hearings through video conferencing due to a nationwide lockdown and even after the restrictions were relaxed, it has decided to continue with the practice. In the last week of July, the 7- judge panel headed by senior most judge Justice N V Ramana had apprised the bar leaders of its decision to not open the apex court for physical hearings "for the time being" and had assured to meet them again after two weeks to reconsider the issue. NIA arrests six more people and conducts searches at 6 places in Kerala gold smuggling case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested six more people and conducted searches at six places in connection with the Kerala gold smuggling case, an official said on Sunday. The agency has so far arrested 10 people in the case of smuggling of gold through diplomatic baggage addressed to the UAE consulate in Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram. On July 30, two accused -- Jalal A M of Ernakulam and Said Alavi E of Malappuram -- were arrested for conspiring with the arrested accused Ramees K T, an NIA spokesperson said. On July 31, two more accused, Mohammed Shafi P and Abdu P T, both residents of Malappuram, were arrested in the case, he said. BMC restricts gathering for home installation of Ganesh idols

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said only five people should participate in arrival and immersion processions of domestic Lord Ganesh idols during the Ganpati festival next month in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The BMC, which is spearheading Mumbai's fight against coronavirus, on Thursday made a special appeal to citizens in this regard ahead of the festival to curb the spread of  COVID-19  in the metropolis, which has recorded more than 1 lakh cases and nearly 6,000 deaths so far. In his visit to eastern Ladakh on Friday, Defence Miniser Rajnath Singh personally conveyed his appreciation and compliments to the Army personnel from the Bihar regiment for displaying exemplary grit and courage in valiantly fighting the Chinese troops during the Galwan Valley clash on June 15. SC to hear on July 24 pleas against blacklisting of foreigners for alleged Tablighi activities

The Supreme Court Monday said it would hear on July 24 the pleas filed by foreigners challenging the Centre's orders that blacklisted more than 2,700 citizens of 35 countries from travelling to  India  for 10 years for alleged involvement in Tablighi Jamaat activities. The matter came up for hearing through video-conferencing before a bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, requested the bench to adjourn the matter for two weeks. The bench said the matter would be taken up for hearing on Friday next week. The Centre had earlier sought dismissal of the pleas and informed the top court on July 2 that it has issued individual orders on a case-to-case basis for cancellation of visas and blacklisting of 2,765 foreign nationals.
